Donna Allen
Donna Allen. Told you it was special.

Ahhh, the sweet sound of disco. Dionne and Matt indulge themselves once again with disco from eras past and present, the former represented by the AWESOME Donna Allen with Serious and the Staple Singers covering Slippery People by the Talking Heads, and the latter by Nite Jewel, Holt Ghost! (obviously) and the new tune from Joakim.

In between you can catch the usual mix of eclectic indie wonders, including a Clash B-side, The Very Best, Slow Club, The XX and The Big Pink.

Listen for yourself…

Hot Rats @ Coalition this Thursday!!!

August 25, 2009

The Hot Rats

Best known as one half of Britain’s much loved rock pop combo Supergrass, ex Brighton resident Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey make up The Hot Rats –and they’re playing  a Leeds/Reading warm up at Brighton Coalition this Thursday from 7pm.

They’re joined by Brighton’s own upbeat-darkside indie heroes Gloria Cycles, plus a DJ set from The Flying Goffey Brothers, recently described as “psychedelic space cadets with a fondness for Thundercats and aural hallucinations.”

Fond Cheetara memories.

Get your hands on some tickets, £8 advance from Rounder, Resident and Ticketweb.

Radio Show: August 16th 2009 // Shake Your Rump to the Disco Funk

August 17, 2009

Sipho 'Hot Stix' Mabouse. Nothing to do with the post, but.... I mean.... wow.

After sunning himself on his jollies, Matt is back with Tanlines (ho ho ho!). Yes folks, terrible humour, shonky links but terrific music just keep on infecting the airwaves, and here is a little record of it, just for you.

In one of their all-too-frequent serendipitous synchronisations (actually in this case maybe that should be serendipitous synth-chronisations) Dionne and Matt deliver two eighties electro-funk killers in a row (in the form of Fresh Band and Feel). Elsewhere, there are looks forward to upcoming gigs in the form of MSTRKRFT (Ocean Rooms), Sister Sledge (Concorde) and Voluntary Butler Scheme (Freebutt), plus a bit of Nu Disco wafflisations from Lindstrom, Aeroplane and Holy Ghost!.

Listen here, look down there.

Radio Show: 2nd August 2009 – Festival Bonanza

August 2, 2009

No k-holes in this meadow – it’s been a summer of music loving and we celebrate by playing some songs we like. Matt gets emotional with Hawkwind. I mean Rain Machine, and Dionne reminisces of times past with a fond look back at Secret Garden Party and Latitude (shame The Sonic Manipulator was vetoed by Matthew).
There’s also some classics knocking about like that crusty that wakes you up poi-diving around 7am when you’ve just crawled into your tent. Frrresh.
